wooh we won fajar. (:
so so so glad. i feel exhuasted, but i wanna blog a detailed post about today.

hmm. okay so i took 180 to bpp with norfi. and then we started WALKING to fajar, and the equipment weighed a ton. we reached there too early, jiexin and i were enthusiastically saying, "eh, let's start warm up la!" but clara said, "bu ke yi. trust me, you'll get tired one!" so we waited. and waited. saw ABNs. too bad they're in the B' Girls. if not jiexin can avenge... LOL. so we did our throwings and stuffs.

THEN the game started. coach told us to wait for a strike. and some people who didn't had to run the field for 2 rounds. aww... then we got kinda nice free walks. yeah and the umpire looks like JUJU! lol. and then i got this really nice high ball and the person was out. shouted to ivy "go, go, go!" as in telling her to go back to 1st base. pushed her back just in case we collided for the ball. then i got the ball. the person was out. yet i still rushed to ivy with the ball and our gloves were joined together and my ball rolled into her glove. LOL!

we won. duh. when we went in...

♥ nothing tastes as sweet as what i can't have ♥

okay here's the incomplete story that liyen and i had written. so here it is again. completed.

In the middle of the dark and eerie woods, an owl let out a resounding hoot that could send a shiver down anyone's spine. A blood-freezing gust of wind blew past a wooden cottage. It was made of red wood. The moonlight played tricks on it, making it seemed as if it was painted with blood. It looked run down, and some of the wood at the edges had been eaten by termites. There was moss hanging down from the roof, like hands with long-pointed, green fingernails creeping up to you.

But inside the house, it was completely different. An inviting warm fire was crackling nosily in a fireplace. Some of the bricks at the fireplace were chipped off, forming small holes. Three beds were set against the wall; two was vacant while the other one was occupied. It was Herrine. She was seventeen with long, flowing hair that fell to her waist in plaits. She was typical-looking, with normal features; a small nose and thin lips. What were significant were her eyes. They were grey. Pure grey. Whenever you looked into it, you would not stand the sadness you see in them. She had become aloof and apathetic ever since her mother"s death. Her flowing hair fanned out on the pillow, gleaming brown.

"Herrine! I'm hungry!" Vivian, her sister, complained.

Vivian was turning seven this year.

"Get away from me..." Herrine grumbled irritably, swatting the mid-air aimlessly, trying to shut her sister up.

"Yeah. Don't bother her, she's still running a fever. Come here! I'll make you something to eat and off you shall go to bed..." her second sister, Sovia, said. She was fifteen years of age. Unlike her sister, she was pretty and outgoing. She had big eyes that made you think of stars glowing in the dark.

Then, for no reason, Vivian started crying.

"What's wrong again, Vivi?" her father asked in a exasperated tone.

But the reply she gave him was louder bawls. Sovia hurriedly shoved a cookie into her mouth.

"There! Don't cry or else, if it hears us..." she trailed off.

"Don't you dare tell her!" their father warned menacingly.

"Alright, alright. Just keep quiet, will you?" Sovia added while she turned to Vivian.

The bawls receded to sobs, but nevertheless, it sounded like a hippo coming down with a flu.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" three sharp knocks echoed through the tiny cottage.

"I guess that must be Mr. Thompson. He said he'd come visit," their father concluded with a worried smile. They had owed him some money for their mother's funeral.

It had been a long time since Mr. Thompson visited. He was a close family friend and also their family doctor. He went to their house almost every Sunday to have tea with the whole family. He stopped his visits after their mother died of a sudden heart attack while Mr. Thompson was treating her asthma in the guest room.

On that very night when she died, their father was watching the television while the children were sleeping. Mr. Thompson had ran out of the guest room, yelling.

"Quick, your wife!" he shouted at their father.

He jumped up in fright, taking a minute to fully comprehend what Mr. Thompson had just said. He dashed quickly into the guest room, only to find his wife breathing faintly.

"Mary, Mary! Nooooooo!" he called out in despair.

"Ruby..." was the last word that came out of her mouth.

The children, hearing their father's scream, woke up and went into the guest room curiously. Their cries filled the grim, lonely woods.

The funeral was held at in a discreet part of the small town, Treeloop. It was a quiet affair, with no friends or relatives as the people avoided the family because of their poverty. Their relatives all looked down on them, not giving a helping hand. Only Mr. Thompson and two journalists from Singapore were there. They were Kenny Chua and Lee Li Yen. They happened to pass by and attended the funeral to offer their condolences to the devastated family.

The mother's ashes were scattered at the back of their house so as to let her be with the family forever. She had not left anything for her family. The family was poor. Occasionally, Mr. Thompson offered them money, but they would always decline it politely. Although they were poor, they were able to have sufficient food for the family members, and they were contented with their simple life.

The family was distressed after Mary's death. The most affected one was Herrine. She was all quiet and did not eat for three whole days. She would have died if not for her father, who happened to look for a drink in the middle of the night. He saw her holding on to a knife, preparing to slit her wrist, to pry open the outering, to expose the tender flesh inside. She was crying and sobbing silently.

"Oh my. Please, put that knife down!" he whispered hoarsely, the blood draining from his face.

"Get away from me, Dad. I love you, but not the same way I feel for Mum," she cried, tears spilling down like a broken pearl necklace.

He rushed to her and wrested the knife away from her shaking hands. He embraced her tightly, unable to find the words to express his love for his beloved daughter who had suffered so much. He could feel her sadness seeping through every pore from her body.

But that was a year ago. Now, the family was quite settled down. The word 'ruby' still rang in their heads. None of them understood what their mother meant. Ruby... was it a name, or maybe it's an item; like a pair of ruby earrings or maybe... a ring?

The next morning, the radiant sun rays shone down cheerfully. The morning dew clung on to nearly every leaf in the forest. Mr. Thompson left last night, after having some baked potatoes and carrots for supper. Their father was relieved when he realized that Mr. Thompson did not come for the debt he owed him.

"How're you doing, Simon?" Mr. Thompson had asked with sympathy, addressing their father.

"Fine, Watson! Great to see you again!" Simon replied heartily, grabbing him by the hand and shaking it vigorously.

"I'm starving, man. Anything to feed a passing merchant?" he winked at Simon.

They laughed and joked throughout the night, talking about their past adventures.

"Oh my. Look at the time. Well, I must be going!" Mr. Thompson said.

"Alright. Have a safe journey home!" Simon called out to Mr. Thompson.

"What do you think would happen? Meet a murderer who'd rob me?" he joked as he hurriedly stuffed his large feet into his gigantic boots.

When Simon went into the living room, he saw that Herrine was missing. He was not worried as she had gone out on midnight walks before.

She came back a little while after Mr. Thompson left. Her hands were wet, dripping wet. She stared at her father in silence. Drip. Drip. Drip.

"Hey, you're back. Are you okay? Why are your hands wet? Has your fever gone down? Want some supper?" Simon fired the questions at his daughter.

"I dropped my hair clip into the lake, so I fished it out with my hands," she replied monotonously.

"Okay. Go to bed, then," he bided her goodnight and went to bed.

Simon woke up in a pool of blood. Warm blood. He followed the trail of blood to a pretty young woman. She had her back facing him.

"Are you okay, Miss? You're bleeding profusely on the wrists!" he exclaimed.

Still, the woman made no response. He walked over to face the woman. Strangely, he found himself facing his dear old wife again. He choked back a cry and fell on his bottom.

"She... Ring... Beware!" she had bellowed with such force that blood squirted out like a fountain from her wrists.

She looked a ghastly white, looking paler than he had remembered her to be. Then, her face changed into that of Herrine's. Her face was twisted with hatred, eyes flaming angrily. She was holding a knife, like she had done before. She slashed the air around, narrowly missing him. He felt a sharp pain on his thigh. She stabbed him.

He woke up with a jerk. He had fallen off his bed. He pinched his cheeks excruciatingly to make sure he was not dreaming. What a nightmare, it meant nothing at all, he thought puzzledly. He woke his daughters up and they started their daily routine.

While they were having cereals for breakfast, there was an urgent knock on the main door. It continued and became louder by the third knock. Simon opened the door hastily and found a stern-looking police officer, hand raised, ready to knock the door again. Simon studied the officer's appearance briefly. The police officer had sullen cheeks, a square jaw and a goatee. An unreadable expression hung on his face.

"Good morning, officer. What's wrong? Is there anything I can help?" Simon asked, frowning anxiously. He sensed that something was amissed.

"Good morning to you, too. I believe you are Simon Brownie. My name's Timothy Puff, head of police department," The officer paused for a while, letting Simon digest the words. Simon looked at him inquisitively, urging him to continue.

"Dr. Thompson," he continued hesitantly, "was found dead this morning. Some hikers came across his corpse and reported to us. It was said that you were the last person who met him. We need to bring you to the station for questioning," he related grimly.

"His eyes were scraped out by a branch found lying next to him. Some of his teeth were knocked out, due to a blow on the mouth. Part of his skull was exposed, a scalp of skin was hanging by a thread of flesh. His arm was twisted in a weird angle and one of his feet was missing a shoe. He must have lost it while escaping from whoever was attacking him," the police officer nodded, to show his sympathy.

"Let's get going... Warn your daughters about the psycho killer lurking in the woods," He said, patting him on the shoulder gently. He shuddered at the thought of the gruesome murder he had just witnessed.

"Why... Why did this happen?" Simon screamed deliriously. He collapsed to the floor, his knees giving way. He had not fully recovered from his wife's death, and now, this news dealt him with such a blow that he felt it was the end of the world.

After half an hour of calming down, Simon went off with the officer. Before he left, he warned his daughters, as what the officer had told him, and they assured him that they would take good care of themselves.

Just as Simon was stepping outside, he remembered that Herrine had coincidentally gone out for a walk that time. But he quickly erased the thought from his mind, telling himself not to be stupid enough to suspect his own flesh and blood.

The Sunday afternoon, the two sisters, Herrine and Vivian, set off the market as usual. They had to purchase groceries for next week. When they reached the market, they bought some corns, potatoes and vegetables from a grocer. Then they went to the bakery to buy a long loaf of bread.

"Come on, tell me about what Dad stopped Sovia from revealing that night," Vivian whimpered.

"No, Vivi!" Herrine snapped impatiently.

"Please. I swear I won't freak out," Vivian said desperately.

"Okay, okay. It is said that ghosts live in the Butterfly Lake... and they hate it when children cry! Who knows what will happen to those who cry?" she said spookily.

Vivian let out a whimper again, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Shush! I shouldn't have told you that," Herrine said hurriedly, cursing under her breath.

She brought Vivian to the playground, and her tears evaporated at once.

Kids these days! Herrine thought exasperatedly. She let out a sigh, she finally gotten over her mother's death. She sat on a bench, and rested her head on her knees. Flashes of fun times zoomed past in her head, like a movie. Then one of the scenes enlarged and she saw her mother giving her the ruby ring. She had cherished it and nobody knew about it. She was not going to share her mother's love no matter what. It was an inheritance from her mother, from her grandmother. It was passed on for generations. Three generations, to be exact and only to women in the family.

She sat up with a start, realising the time. She dragged Vivian away from the swing. Walking briskly, she took out the ruby ring from her coat pocket and examined it with a loving expression. The image of her mother giving it to her was still on her mind. She was totally oblivious to Vivian, who was gaping like a goldfish in need of oxygen.

"Don't you dare tell!" Herrine snapped nervously. She stuffed the scared item back into her pocket.

"And you didn't tell us all along?" Vivian demanded.

"I... it's none of your business, you know," Herrine replied haughtily.

Vivian sulked and walked close to her sister. The woods looked extremely terrifying at night. They walked in awkward silence, passing the Butterfly Lake. Just when Herrine lumbered up the steps, she turned and found Vivian missing.

She dashed into the house to ask Sovia for help. However, Sovia was nowhere to be found.

She went back the route where she and Vivian had taken. She ran past Butterfly Lake, but still, she did not find her sister.

"Vivian! Where are you?" she called out, perspiring.

She heard footsteps crunching the twigs and dried leaves behind her.

"Oh my, it's you!" Herrine let out a relieving sigh.

"Yeah, where's the ring?" Sovia asked coolly.

"Wh-What ring?" Herrine chuckled nervously.

"Give it to me! It was meant for me!" Sovia screamed with hatred in her eyes.

"You found Vivi? She told you all these?" Herrine asked worriedly.

"Yeah, she's safe. Right down by the lake," Sovia smirked.

"Oh, thank God. Let's go then," Herrine said, hoping Sovia would forget about the ring.

"No. Give me the ring first," Sovia urged angrily.

"No. mom gave it to me, not you!" Herrine shouted back.

Sovia lunged at her, grabbing her coat. Herrine yelped, pushing Sovia away with a great force. Sovia fell to the ground and Herrine ran as fast as her long legs could carry her. When she reached the Butterfly Lake, she could not see Vivian. She must have gone home, Herrine thought.

She sprinted, heart pounding non-stop. With her heartbeat loudly in her ears, she thought of Sovia. Sovia was out of the home after she came back from her midnight walk. Vivian had told her that there were smells of mud and blood when Sovia came back. But she reprimanded her for spouting nonsense. She paused in her tracks, hearing out for Sovia to catch up. Nothing. Then she remembered. Vivian! She would kill Vivian to prevent her from revealing the secret. However, there was no reason for Sovia to kill Mr. Thompson, was there?

As she leapt up the steps once more, she let out a sigh of relief. A light was shining out of the window. Phew. Vivian was back! She could at least breath easier now. But surprise, surprise... it was Sovia sitting on the couch.

"Well, it's time you came back. Give me the ring," Sovia said calm and firmly.

"No! you have no rights. Where is Vivi? What have you done to her? Did you kill Mr. Thompson that night?" Herrine asked angrily.

"Yeah, so what if I did? He refused to tell me the powers of the ring. That night mother died, I had not fallen asleep and heard them talking about the ruby ring. Mom said it possessed great powers," Sovia said.

"But it was not told to me when I was given the ring," Herrine observed bewildered.

"That is because she doesn't love you!" Sovia retorted gleefully.

"How could you do this just for the ring?" Herrine asked disgustedly.

"Excuse me, correction please. It's the ring given by mom!" Sovia replied irritably.

"Just tell me where Vivi is!" Herrine screamed, trying to buy time.

Sovia stroded towards Herrine. She grabbed Herrine's shoulders in a vice-like grip, pulling her close.

"I told you. Vivi is safe, in the lake," she grinned sinisterly as she whispered the words in Herrine's ear.

"Bang!" the gunshot resounded through the house.

The next day, Sovia went to the police station, sobbing.

"I... I don't know what to do. My father... he... he threatened me not to report about the murder. He... he said he'd kill me. I had nightmares since then. My oldest sister, Herrine, killed our little sister, Vivian! She wanted nobody to know about the ruby ring... the ring my mother gave her. She drowned Vivi... in Butterfly Lake... and... shot herself with a gun that our father keeps for defending any burglars..." she broke off, wailing like a baby.

The judge put Simon in jail. They also ransacked the house in and out, but found nothing except the gun Herrine "shot" herself with. Simon had denied everything, shrieking half-mad. "No! you don't understand! I did not threaten them! My daughters won't die! Sovia would never do this to me!"

Sovia was in the house alone.

"What can you do?" she muttered to the ring as if it would reveal the secret to her.

There it lay, on her palm, sparkling in the moonlight. Suddenly, Sovia saw some inscriptions on the ring. DEATH CURSE : On 3 generations of women. Just as Sovia was trying to figure out what the inscriptions meant, she heard Vivian's wailing coming from the Butterfly Lake. She was stoned. Herrine's pale and sad looking face kept flashing upon her. Her beloved mother was also standing by the kitchen, lookig at her with utter disgust and disappointment. Sovia cried and ran to her when she tripped and fell upon a kitchen knife that was sticking out of its holder. It pierced right through her heart, causing an instantaneous death.

An exceptionally peaceful and warm morning came and the two journalists who had visited Mary's came again to interview the family about the town. The door was opened and they found Sovia's dead body when they went inside.

The death was immediately reported to the police by the journalists. They went to jail, to break the piece of grieving news to Simon. He cried as helplessly as a baby, his shoulders shaking uncomfortably.

The journalists offered their condolences again and was about to leave when Li Yen remembered something.

"Oh yes, one more thing. Sovia was holding on to this tightly. We thought you might want it since it's valuable," Li Yen said kindly, placing the ruby ring on the table.

Simon took a look and started shouting hysterically like a mad hyena, "The ruby ring! Sovia had it? Nooooooo! It should be buried with Mary. A kind soul can break the curse. Mary should have broken the curse. Why? Why?" Simon was so agitated that he had to be pulled away by the police guards. As he was being taken away, he kept chanting, "It's a family curse! The death curse! A curse! A curse! A curse!"

Kenny and Li Yen looked at each other, baffled.

oh the english paper 1 and a half hour. i finished at 9. and i spent 9-9:10am thinking about the west zone. i wonder how come pitchers can pitch straight balls, like... do they measure? how are you sure that they don't hit your body or whatever? anyway, i was sweating like some mad cow! T-T
and then i thought of the opss match, the pitcher pitched and hit my leg. i wonder if they'll hit my face next time. RAWRR`X . that's like so freaking scary la.

man... I'M SCARED. chet. 4 matches. but we can't send liyen off. T-T

today wasn't good without tissue. though i brought it, i tried to be independent by leaving the measly softball-ultraman-tissue-pack in my bag. so. i guess. sorry la.

bringing jiexin a toothbrush eraser tmr. ^_^
since her small-and-round-and-cute-but-only-the-diameter-of-a-10-cent-coin seems to be fading away... she's napping as usual, i mean. i took a nap later than her and i woke up earlier. that's not what you would supposedly call NAPPING right... it's called DEAD-SLEEPING.

♥ starving for truth ♥

wassuppppppppppppppppppppppp. (:

math is really hard. i prefer elimination method to substitution method. i mean it's like they're the same? i don't know which is which cause in elimination, i thought there was a statement 'sub. y=1 into equation 2' or whatever. huh. that means substitution is in elimination? i don't know.

wooh! (:
sentosaaaaaaaa. GIDBSAPB. HAHAHAHA.

i dunno why, but when it comes to short term holidays, i'll start to miss clara. we're not THAT close, but still i will crave for her suddenly.

HAHA. and i tried to go to her blog, and tell her i miss her. SHE CHANGED HER PW. ):
shunned from my own kind. anyway i added her in johnson's msn, cause i don't wanna sign out of his. don't feel like talking to other people, except for jiexin. haha. she knows my bro la, so it's not unfair, y'know. anyway called rachel:

rachel: *scared* huh?! who are you? hello?
me: ERRRR!
rachel: ni shi shui!!!
me: AN NI GU ROT PUT.
rachel: HUHHHHHHH?!

rachel: ... why?
me: huh?
rachel: i mean, WHAT?

NORTHERN IRELAND

DIVIDED LOYALTIES.
EDUCATION SYSTEM.
EMPLOYMENT.
VOTING RIGHTS.
HOUSING.

1960s: CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
- catholics demanded for equal rights and protested against unfair treatment.
- peaceful demands for equal rights : voting, housing, education and jobs.
- met with some hostilities and violence from some protestants.
> think it's a movement trying to weaken goverment.
1968 : beginning of 'the troubles'.
1969 : situation worsened.
> british army units were sent in to keep peace
>> arrested catholics and searched their homes.

BLOODY SUNDAY
1972: peaceful civil rights march was shot at by british soldiers.
- 14 civilians died, many wounded.
- turning point of catholic-protestant relation.
- increasing violence after that.
- catholics turned to irish republican army for help.
> aim : to drive british army and representatives of british goverment out of northern ireland.

is that all?

♥ sri lanka ♥

i don't feel like writing and writing. so here i am, typing instead.

DISAGREEMENTS

- inability to carry on traditional way of life
> forced to adopt a different set of customs and traditions.
- disagreement over political and economic policies.
- dissastifaction of education and language policies that do not consider the interest of particular group.
- unhappy with laws that are seen as UNFAIR.
- quest for control of power by different religious groups.

SOLUTIONS

- quiet tolerance.
- peaceful tolerance.
- rioting and violence:
> weaken government.
> divide people further.
> encourages foreign interventions by powerful neighbouring countries.

DIFFERENCES

SINHALESE
- largest group.
- speaks sinhala.
- mainly buddhists.

TAMILS
- second largest group.
- speaks tamil.
- mainly hindus.
- 2 groups:
> sri lankan
>> desecendants of tamils who have lived in sl for centuries.
> indian
>> descendants of indian tea plantation workers brought in by british.

okay. done with 1st part.

CAUSE OF CONFLICTS - CURL

Citizenship rights
University admission
Resettlement of sinhalese to tamil-populated regions
Language and jobs issues in goverment service

CITIZENSHIP RIGHTS
1948, citizenship was given to those born in sl and those whose fathers and grandfathers were born there.
- many indian tamils became stateless although they have worked and lived there for a very long time.
> they were not given basic rights like voting.
>> they were unhappy! >:-(

1956, india allowed some indian tamils back to india.
sl agreed to give the remaining indian tamils citizenship.

1980s, sl did not carry out agreement to full. (faggots...)
- about 100000 indian tamils remained stateless despite working on plantations and contributing to economy.

NEXT.

UNIVERSITY ADMISSION
before 1970:
- admission based on merit.
- exams held in english.
- almost equal number of tamils and sinhalese in medical and engineering course.
> sinhalese were unhappy as the number was not proportionate to their numbers.

1970: change in education policy
- tamils must score higher to get into same course as sinhalese.
- other schemes made admission difficult for tamils.
> percentage of tamils dropped.
>> more sinhalese entered university.

RESETTLEMENT OF SINHALESE TO TAMIL-POPULATED REGIONS
- government resettled poor sinhalese farmers to tamil areas.
> gave landless peasants with land to grow crops with.
- tamils were unhappy when buddhist monks and sri lankan army (mainly sinhalese) came to live there.

LANGUAGE AND JOBS ISSUES IN GOVERMENT SERVICE
during british rule, tamils were advatage.
- though minority, english-educated tamils entered government service and held powerful jobs.
- though majority, sinhalese were at disadvantage as they could not read or write english well.

after gaining independence, sinhalese wanted to improve their positions.
1956: the official language act.
- sinhala made the language of administration.
> tamils were given 3 years to learn it or be sacked.
>> they were unhappy as they had no job security or promotion.
>> they organized peaceful demostrations.
>>> turned violent and many died.

1957, there was an agreement between the sri lankan pm and the tamil leader.
- tamil made the language of administration in north and east provinces (populated mainly tamils)
> sinhalese protested.

1958: agreement withdrawn.
- fighting between sinhalese and tamils.
> many deaths and homeless

1978: sri lankan constitution.
- gave tamil language more recognition by making it the administration language of north and east provinces.

1987, tamil was accepted as an official language but not widely used.

DONE.

CONSEQUENCES

Social consequences
Economic consequences
Political consequences

SOCIAL
- armed conflicts

> tamils:
>> initial peaceful demands failed.
>> formed political party called tamil united liberation front [TULF].
>> wanted a seperate and independent state called tamil eelam.
>> rejected by sinhalese government.
>> angry tamil youths formed liberation tigers of tamil eelam [LTTE].
>>> resorted to violence.
>>> considered as terrorists.
>>> started attacking tamils -politicians, police, etc... - who didn't support the proposed state.
>>> later attacked sinhalese.

> sinhalese:
>> held anti-tamil riots in response to tamils' peaceful protests against 'sinhala only' policy.
>>> many tamils fled to india.

- violence leads to more hostility.
- children grow up prejudiced against other racial groups.
> remain hostile all their lives.

ECONOMICS - HELL

Huge unemployment
Economic problems
Loss of foreign investments
Loss in tourism earnings

- huge unemployment.
> sinhalese and tamils lost their jobs because of the attacks of tamil tigers.
>> sinhalese revenged by looting, vandalising and burning tamil workplaces.

- economic problems.
> less fund to build basic facilities such as : housing, transport, and power.

- loss of foreign intervention.
> due to increasing violence, foreigners did not invest in sl.
> foreigners did not build any factories to provide jobs for people.

- loss in tourism earnings.
> due to violence, many were afraid to visit sl.

POLITICAL
- after 1983 riots: india mediated.
> failed.
- 1987: india sent ships with food to sl tamils
> turned back by sl navy
>> india airforce dropped food and medical supplies to jaffna
>>> violated(clara, violation!) sl airspace.
- sl pressured to sign peace treaty.
> tamil tigers didn't want to surrender their weapons. (stubborn punks!)
>> indian peacekeeping troops took over jaffna by force.
1987 - 1988: clashes between indian peacekeeping troops and tamil tigers.
1990: indian peacekeeping troops withdrew.

till today hostilities still exist.

who cares about typo errors now? go save sri lanka instead of checking for my mistakes. thank you. >:-B
